First month most likely to be when a patient discontinues medication

A large US study has found that patients are most likely to stop their medication in the first month of treatment. The study claims that pateints who are "medication naïve" are more likely to discontinue treatment than those who are "medication experienced".
 
Patient medication compliance is linked to health literacy according to the study - where this is low medication discontinuation seems to be greater.
