Keep Watching the Drug Tariff

BY GREG BULL  |  POSTED IN GENERAL NEWS

It has always been our advice that you monitor the Drug Tariff preface to keep up to speed with changes to the status of branded products either entering or leaving the Drug Tariff or changing status from Category C to either Category A or Category M. The October 2009 Drug Tariff saw a number of changes to the status and pricing of a number of products for example;

Ampicillin 125mg/5ml oral suspension Cat M to Cat A - £3.88 to £6.19 [Drug Tariff price]

[This means the product has become a "Category A" generic and the reimbursement price has risen drmatically and could now change monthly rather than quarterly as with "Category M" generics]

Bicalutamide 150mg tabs x 28 Cat A to Cat M - £131.10 to £23.94

[This means the product has become "Category M" and the price could now only change quarterly. But the reimbursement price has dropped dramatically.]
