The NHS Constitution seeks new rights for patients
The Government has outline proposals to give patients the legal right to private treatment if the NHS cannot provide care in an agreed time frame – for example patients with cancer would have the right to be seen within two weeks and other patients would have the right to treatment within eighteen weeks.
If the NHS is unable to treat patients within the given time frame, alternatives, such as treatment at private hospitals would need to be provided. It is claimed that measures such as these will increase the standardisation of health care across the country and help iron out inequalities.
